KEY POINTS:
Police have asked Child, Youth and Family to investigate a pregnant Tauranga woman who they found on a drinking binge, just days before she was due to give birth.
Police were called to the woman's Papamoa home last week, after she was hit over the head with a glass bottle by her partner.
Detective Sergeant Jason Perry says the pair had been drinking for eight hours. He says police considered laying charges against the woman, as they were concerned about the safety of her unborn child. However he says there is actually no specific legislation to charge her.
Mr Perry says Child Youth and Family are now investigating. He says CYF workers will go and speak with the woman to find out about the family's living situation. He says he hopes they will ensure the child is kept safe.
