Heart attack may have caused crash

Gisborne police are investigating whether a fatal crash in Tokomaru Bay last night was caused by the driver suffering a medical problem - possibly a heart attack.

The car veered off Beach Road and into a tree around 8.30pm.

Police communications Inspector Steve Darroch said emergency services attempted to revive the driver but were unsuccessful.

It was not known whether it was the crash or medical problem which was the cause of death.
