An unemployed man accused of raping a 16-year-old schoolgirl in Christchurch will face a depositions hearing next month.
Gary Shane Ian Nicholas, 28, is also accused of threatening and assaulting the girl in a New Brighton street attack on June 1, Christchurch Court News website reports.
Police alleged Nicholas approached the girl as she walked along New Brighton Rd with her boyfriend.
He threatened the boy, who ran off to call police, then took the girl to a grass verge and raped her.
An August 20 date for a depositions hearing was set before Judge John Bisphan in Christchurch District Court today.
Nicholas remains in custody after a bail appeal in the High Court was dismissed on July 3.
