Increasing your fruit and vegetable consumption can change your skin colour and make you more attractive according to new research from The University of St Andrews in
Scotland.
The findings, published in the Public Library of Science, reveal the yellow tones
in skin can be increased by eating more fresh produce over a six week period.
The abundance of carotenoids in fruit and vegetables is what alters skin colour and
affects the appearance of healthiness.
Researchers found when participants were able to digitally manipulate the skin colour of Caucasian, African and Asian face stimuli, increasing the yellowness in skin tone was a consistent alteration.
While a low intake of fruit and vegetables is believed to precipitate 2.6 million premature
deaths worldwide, the researchers suggest the effects could be used as a motivational tool in dietary intervention.
