Stripping cigarette packets of glitzy branding to dissuade children from taking up smoking is being considered by the British government, in the face of Japan Tobacco International's £2m campaign against plain packaging.
Cancer Research UK conducted an interview of British school children (see below) shown cigarette packages with various appealing branding.
From a young girl exclaiming delight over a bright pink packet to a boy who describes
light blue branding as making "you feel like you're in a wonderland of happiness", the footage poses a strong argument for the need to protect children from tobacco advertising.
The organisation says their research shows plain packaging will make smoking less attractive to children and hopes the footage will encourage people to sign a petition against plain packaging to put to the country's Department of Health.
