Wairarapa and Hutt Valley District Health Boards chief executive Graham Dyer is to stand down, following a breakdown with other board members.
"When I took the roles on, there were many initiatives that I wanted to achieve and after five years, I feel my task has been completed," said Mr Dyer.
"I will be taking a break before considering my other opportunities."
Mr Dyer joined the Hutt Valley DHB as chief executive in July 2010, after leaving the Waitemata DHB, where he had been chief operating officer.
In late 2012, after the resignation of his Wairarapa counterpart, Tracey Adamson, he became chief executive of both the Hutt Valley and the Wairarapa DHBs.
