Heads in the Sand events have been held at 12 beaches today from Ahipara to Invercargill, including events at four beaches in Auckland.
Those taking part in the events organised by the Coastal Action Network Aotearoa called on the Prime Minister and his government to take their heads out of the sand and treat climate change seriously.
The Network says as nations meet in Peru to plan an agreement to limit greenhouse gas emissions, hundred of kiwis put their heads in the sand to symbolise the government's lack of action on climate change.
Events in Wellington, Auckland's Mission Bay, New Brighton Beach in Christchurch, Invercargill's Oreti Beach, and elsewhere attracted hundreds of people.
