KEY POINTS:
Police are investigating how a six-week-old child suffered head injuries which caused it to be admitted to hospital.
The child was admitted to Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland yesterday with head injuries, TV3 News reported.
Police were believed to be investigating whether the child, thought to be from the Auckland suburb of Glen Innes, had suffered abuse.
A Starship Hospital spokeswoman told NZPA the child was in a stable condition but was unable to add anything further.
A spokeswoman for Child, Youth and Family said she could not comment for privacy reasons and because police were investigating.
Child, Youth and Family deputy chief executive Ray Smith said CYF had been involved with the child's whanau.
He said any concerns raised about the actions of CYF would be taken very seriously and thoroughly examined by the service.
Police were unavailable for comment.
