KEY POINTS:
The editor of Hawke's Bay Today, Louis Pierard, has resigned.
Mr Pierard has been editor of Hawke's Bay Today since 2001. Before that he edited the Bay of Plenty Times and Napier's Daily Telegraph.
General manager of Hawke's Bay Newspapers Matthew Sherry acknowledged Mr Pierard's stellar career and his contribution to the newspaper industry in Hawke's Bay over more than 30 years and said he would be missed by the community and his many colleagues.
Mr Pierard said that after so many years in newspapers and a life largely regulated by daily events as they happen to others, he had decided to call it a day.
"I leave the camaraderie, the endless variety and also the security with some regret, but editors don't last forever and I yield to the (perhaps irrational) urge to try my hand at something different while I am still able to," he said.
