Police were called to deal with a "very stubborn" miniature horse which had decided to go on a trip to the supermarket in the middle of the night.
Senior Sergeant Ross Smith of the Eastern District Command Centre said a member of the public notified police about 4.20am yesterday, as the "quite friendly" but "very stubborn" miniature pony walked down Havelock North's Middle Rd and into the New World carpark.
Constable Vicky Holden was tasked with wrangling the horse, which stood just 1 metre tall.
"There was this little white pony wandering around the car park. When Animal Control showed up they tried to get him in the back of the van but he was having none of it."
Ms Holden led the horse on a makeshift leash of emergency tape to a Middle Rd paddock, where it was detained.
