Wairarapa Bush under-15 representative side travelled to Waipukurau to play Hawke's Bay last weekend.
The Bush boys came under great pressure right from the first whistle with Hawke's Bay scoring two tries to take an early 0-14 lead.
After the early setback, Wairarapa-Bush rallied and Josh Rowlands scored a brilliant individual try, which Abe Southey converted to close the gap to 7-14.
Hawke's Bay then added a penalty just before half-time to go into the break 17-7 up.
In the second half, Hawke's Bay played sensible rugby into the wind, adding three more tries to their tally. Rowlands kicked a consolation penalty for the locals, leaving the final score at 39-10 to the Bay.
Players to stand out for Wairarapa-Bush were openside flanker Madi Mason, who ran strongly with the ball and made many telling tackles. Caleb Roseman played a strong game at prop and toiled away right through the game, while Rowlands and Kelsey Dittmer were the pick of the Bush backs.
Wairarapa-Bush under-15s have a week off this weekend and will play Horowhenua Kapiti next Saturday in Levin.
