Hawkes Bay crash victim had 'endless love and kindness for anyone'

A young man who died in a crash between a car and a ute over the holidays had a "smile to define the word cheesy", and "endless love and kindness for anyone who needed it".

Bradley Charles Dobby, 20, from Central Hawkes Bay, died following the collision on State Highway 2, just south of the Waipawa Bridge near Ongaonga Rd around 7.30pm on January 3.

His friends have set up a Givealittle page to help support his family.

Creator Alex Schafer described Mr Dobby as a "lovely boy" who was "loved by so many".

"The boy who's smile defined the word cheesy, and the man who had endless love and kindness for anyone who needed it," she posted on the fundraising page.

"Bradley was a lucky man to have been loved by so many wonderful people."

One woman who donated, Erin, said she would "never forget that kind heart and great smile".

Ashliegh Sargison said: "We grew up together as our mums were great friends. Still in complete shock over such a tragedy. Sending my love to you [Mr Dobby's mum]."

On Facebook Daryl Maree said: "I hope my cousin rests easy & thank you to all who stayed with him so he wasn't alone."

Natasha Hunter also posted, saying: "Can't recall how many times I was asked, 'can you drop me off at Brad's place?'. [Mr Dobby's mother] I have no idea how you begin to pick your self up. A million hugs and kisses that I know mean Jack s***. Every mother's worst nightmare xox"

Mr Dobby worked at Silver Fern Farms, and was a past-pupil of Central Hawke's Bay College.

He died following a collision between a ute and a car near Waipawa on State Highway 2 at 7.30pm on Sunday.

It is believed the vehicles collided just south of Waipawa Bridge near Ongaonga Rd.

He was travelling in a Honda sedan while four people, who received minor injuries, were travelling in the ute.

Mr Dobby was on of 12 people who died during the official holiday road period, which ran from 4pm on December 24 to 6am this morning, and one of three people who died on Sunday.
