Weather analyst Philip Duncan says New Zealand has bypassed Autumn and is now experiencing winter in full effect.

The country is in the midst of a cold snap which has sent temperatures plummeting, coming a week after a freak hail storm turned the western Bay of Plenty into a winter wonderland.
