Masterton have won the Wairarapa Tennis Association's Gawith Shield regional one competition for the third successive year.
They met Martinborough in the 2005 grand final at the Masterton Tennis Centre on Saturday and after a hard-fought struggle got home 6-3.
The singles saw Masterton take a crucial 4-2 advantage with Mike Jackson and Steve Hurley successful amonst the men and Barbara Hollings and Margaret Goodall likewise amongst the women.
Jackson lost the first set 4-6 to Andy Darling but bounced back to win the next two comfortably at 6-2, 6-0 while Hurley had too many guns for Wilco Lam, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
Hollings had to work hard to get the better of a determined Libby Paterson 7-6, 6-4 but Margaret Goodall used her experience to telling effect in dropping only two games in her 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Natasha Robinson
The two wins for Martinborough in the singles came from Marco De Groot and Rhona Lovell, De Groot edging out Geoff McKay 6-4, 6-4 and Lovell having to go the full distance before beating Lorraine Liggins 6-4, 2-6, 7-6.
It the men's doubles it was Masterton who called the tune with McKay and Jackson having a surprisingly easy 6-0, 6-3 win over De Groot and Darling but it was a different story in the women's doubles where Martinborough's Paterson and Lovell upset Hollings and Liggins 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
The combined doubles also went to three sets with Hurley and Goodall maintaining their unbeaten records by defeating Lam and Robinson 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Four of the Masterton players on Saturday were also part of the side which started their Gawith Shield three-peat in 2003?.. McKay, Hurley, Hollings and Liggins.
In the regional two men's final Gladstone No.1 beat Opaki, in the regional two women's final Masterton beat Opaki and in the doubles competition decider Greytown beat Masterton.
