A Hastings teenager charged with the manslaughter of a toddler has given up his fight for continued name suppression.
Tamehana Huata can now be named, after abandoning his Court of Appeal hearing for permanent name suppression, which was due to be held in Auckland this afternoon.
Huata is accused of killing two year old Matiu Wereta after an incident at a house in Flaxmere in October last year.
The toddler was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital with critical head injuries, and he died the following day.
Tamehana Huata is due to appear at the High Court in Napier tomorrow morning.
