Police are treating the death of a man found with head injuries in a Hastings street at the weekend as suspicious.
The 38-year-old was admitted to Hawke's Bay Hospital after being found in Karamu Road around midnight Sunday.
He was airlifted to Wellington Hospital, where he died.
An autopsy will be carried out.
Police said it likely that the man was assaulted and appealed for witnesses.
