Harrier group kicks off winter season

Runners and walkers competed over a 1600m course with the bulk of the runners completing four laps when the Athletics Carterton harrier group kicked off their winter season at the Clareville complex on Saturday. Results:- 6.4km runners: Paul Furkert 26.09, Craig Ewing 28.11, Craig Bird 29.01, Greg Lang 30.05, Steve Britland 30.18, Ray Wallis 32.32, John Sage 34.40. 3.2km runners: Matthew Furkert 20.17, Donna Edge 20.18. 3.2km walkers: Ali Lang 26.26, Tracey Furkert 28.27, Maxine Bird 30.37.
The Bush half-marathon and 10km running and walking events will be held at Pahiatua on Saturday with Carterton's John Cromarty and Ray Wallis amongst the confirmed starters. For Cromarty it will be his last stride out before tackling the Rotorua marathon while Wallis's aim is simply to see out the whole journey. Also on Saturday the Carterton harrier group will hold a run-walk from the gravel road at the back of Fensham reserve at Belvedere while on Sunday Trentham club have an off-road 10km and half-marathon event, starting and finishing at Trentham Memorial Park
Meanwhile. entries are already coming to hand for the road races and walks to be held by the Carterton club on Anzac Day, April 25, over 5km and 10km. Part of the entry fee will be donated to the Child Cancer Foundation.
