A man and a woman are on the run for a fifth day after they swam across a creek in Waitemata Harbour to avoid pursuing police.
Sheean Leroy Heta, 23, of Otara, and Linda Cherie Phillips, 33, of Mangere, swam to escape police after their car plunged into Hellyers Creek at Beach Haven on Auckland's North Shore in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
They were allegedly in a stolen Ford Falcon which was chased across the North Shore, at one point seriously injuring a policeman when he was hit by the car and flung into the air as he laid road spikes at Esmonde Rd, Takapuna, 8km east of Beach Haven.
Heta and Phillips were reportedly seen at the Westgate shopping mall in west Auckland on Wednesday.
Police have since widened the inquiry to south Auckland, where the missing pair lived and had associates.
A third person allegedly in the car was arrested as he came out of the water a short distance from where the car entered the water.
A 28-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in North Shore District Court on Wednesday charged with burglary and unlawfully getting into a vehicle.
