Two lanes of the Auckland Harbour Bridge will be closed over the Christmas and New Year period for resurfacing work.
The two southbound clip-on lanes, as well as the Shelly Beach Road off-ramp, will close from 5am, Sunday December 26, until Thursday January 6.
Three lanes northbound and three lanes southbound will remain open on the bridge throughout the work.
The Cook Street southbound off-ramp will also be closed during this time to install a stormwater crossing as part of the Victoria Park Tunnel project.
The Auckland Harbour Bridge is one of the busiest sections of motorway in Auckland, with an average of 154,000 vehicles and as many as 200,000 vehicles crossing it everyday.
Resurfacing involves removing the existing materials, cleaning the deck plate and then laying a new surface, as is part of ongoing maintenance work that takes place throughout the year.
Meanwhile the Wellington St on ramp onto State Highway heading north, which was closed to allow for work on the Victoria Park tunnel, will reopen tomorrow.
NZTA spokesman Tommy Parker said the work had been completed last month, but the closure was extended to allow Auckland Transport to provide a pedestrian crossing across the ramp, primarily for the safety of children from the nearby Freemans Bay School.
