Mana MP Hone Harawira has escaped a potential $40,000 fine after the Electoral Commission ruled that a mistake in one of his election advertisements was human error.
The "Vote Hone" advertisement was published in the Northern Advocate on the day
before the Te Tai Tokerau byelection without the name and address of the promoter, which is required by law.
The commission investigated the advertisement but put the lack of a statement down to human error and did not refer it to the police.
