Happy with Hughes discussion

The Darren Hughes scandal was one in which no one would admit mistakes were made - but it seems there were lessons learned.

Leader Phil Goff and deputy Annette King were at the annual Labour Party National Council meeting in Wellington yesterday, which discussed the handling of the scandal. Hughes resigned after an 18-year-old complained to police over an alleged incident at the house Hughes shares with King.

Departing Labour president Andrew Little said "everyone was satisfied" after a 90 minute discussion. "People wanted to make sure we learned from it."

Special needs educator Moira Coatsworth is Labour's new president.

Former MP Judith Tizard was expected to announce her return to Parliament as Hughes' replacement today.
