Alex has a large collection of beads which are given to her each time she undergoes a treatment.
Ms Hight said they're a visual reminder for everybody.
"The beads mean a lot to the kids."
The charity supports the family in a variety of ways, from petrol vouchers and toiletries, to providing houses in other cities and holiday homes.
They also provide emotional support for families who need it.
"They can support you in anyway that you really need it," said Ms Hight.
She said any fundraising event which supports the charity meant a lot to the families.
The fundraiser will be held on October 27 which by coincidence, is the same day as Alex's diagnosis two years ago, her mum says.
And it's a fitting event for the little girl.
"She loves dressing up. She's such a girly girl - she's got more make-up than I have," said Ms Hight.
White Swan assistant manager Terry Tibble said this was the third annual fundraiser for the fight against child cancer.
"It's just such an important cause," she said.
The event also includes live and silent auctions with donated items such as a sevens blazer signed by former All Black Eric Rush and corporate box tickets to a Wellington Phoenix match.
The White Swan Halloween fancy dress Child Cancer evening will be held on October 27 from 5.30pm.
Tickets are $65 each and Shaun Preston is the entertainment. Tickets are available from The White Swan call (06) 304-8824.
