Attention is moving towards what caused the destructive fire in Hanmer that started on Tuesday.
It ripped through 75 hectares before it was contained, but strong wind caused a number of flare ups yesterday.
North Canterbury Conservation Operations Manager Kingsley Timpson said fire investigators thought it started from the look-out over the Waiau River where they know a vehicle was parked.
DOC wants to hear from anyone who was at the lookout, or saw people there late on Monday night.
