Firefighters called to investigate reports of smoke in Masterton on Saturday discovered instead the cooking fumes of a meal wafting from a hangi at a residential property.
David Meikle, fire communications shift supervisor, said Masterton firefighters had responded to the reports just before 6am on Saturday and found the hangi had been put down in the yard of a Stuart Crescent home.
Masterton crews had scrambled about two hours earlier to a Solway St property where they dealt with a faulty heater.
A Greytown volunteer crew was called to a sprinkler alarm activation at Greytown Lifecare just before 4pm on Saturday.
