A handcuffed prisoner is on the run after he bolted during treatment at Hawke's Bay District Hospital's emergency department.
Police are looking for Dion King, a remand prisoner, who escaped from Corrections officers yesterday at the hospital.
King was being treated at the public hospital's emergency department at the time.
Police said patrols had been conducted at several cordon points in the area but they had failed to find him.
They said King would have been noticeable when he left the hospital as he was wearing handcuffs.
Police did not believe there was any risk to the public and asked anyone who had seen him or knew where he was to dial 111.
