Gardening: Hand over a Hundy was officially launched in Auckland last month at Kelmarna Gardens in Herne Bay.
The project, started by Jade Temepara in 2010, issues a challenge to participating families; within one year they must create their own vegetable gardens from scratch.
That's not all. Not only do they need to create enough food for them and their families, but they must also grow excess produce to raise the $100 needed to kickstart the next family.
Each participating family is sponsored $100 to buy the basics for a garden start-up so they can feed their wh?nau. Families are also given the option to have a gardening mentor who will help the family create a flourishing food patch.
