A police station has been evacuated after a member of the public brought a hand grenade into the building this morning.
A Hastings man found the grenade in his back garden, wrapped it in plastic material and brought it to the Hastings police station about 11am.
Police said it wasn't known if the grenade was live or not.
The police station has been evacuated and prisoners being held in the cells have been transferred to the Napier police station.
The Defence Force bomb squad is en-route to Hastings from Wellington to examine the grenade.
