Two men armed with a hammer robbed a south Auckland dairy and smashed a lolly cabinet and ice cream freezer this morning.
The men entered Mascot Dairy on Mascot Ave, Mangere, about 8.30am and asked how much it would cost for a bottle of cooking gas.
They returned a few minutes later, one armed with a hammer, and threatened the owner, Kulwant Singh.
Mr Singh told APNZ he dropped to the floor to get out of harm's way, but the man with the hammer smashed a lolly cabinet above his head, sending glass flying.
The other man grabbed the till, containing the day's float of about $100, and ran out.
