KEY POINTS:
Hamilton police say a gunpoint robbery of a taxi driver in the city early today may be linked to another suspicious incident at the same house.
The alarm was raised about 1.40am today by a taxi driver who said he had been robbed at gun point of cash and his cellphone.
"He'd (the taxi driver) driven to a Ross Cres address to uplift a fare but the man said to wait, he had to grab something," said Constable Murray MacDonald from the Hamilton police.
"The man disappeared in one direction when all of a sudden two men appeared from another, pointed a pistol through the window and demanded cash and the driver's cell phone."
The shaken driver was then told to go, said Mr MacDonald.
He said a second taxi firm told police one of their drivers had been called to the same house about 10 minutes earlier but became suspicious and drove off when he saw someone lingering in nearby bushes.
