Two women have been charged with arson after a fire at a Waikato school.
Multiple rooms at Sacred Heart Girls College were damaged in the blaze on Friday night which saw 60 firefighters battle to contain and bring the fire under control.
Police yesterday said they had reports of fireworks being let off near the school and were investigating whether it was the cause of the fire. The Herald understands fireworks were found at the scene.
Detective Sergeant Terri Wilson, of Hamilton CIB, today confirmed two 19-year-old women have been arrested and will appear in the Hamilton District Court on Wednesday each facing a charge of arson.
"Police would like to thank members of the public who provided information which assisted with inquiries," he said.
