Event Cinemas in Centreplace, Hamilton, will close on November 29 when the lease expires, and 29 staff will lose their jobs. The seven-screen complex has been struggling to compete against Event's more-modern Chartwell centre and the new Hoyts Cinema in Centreplace.
Event spokeswoman Carmen Switzer said the complex had been looking at introducing stadium seating and surround sound but had found it impossible in the existing building.
