Hamilton mother to break own record

Hamilton mother Lyn Mason, 55, is about to break her own record as the oldest woman in NZ to give birth.

She gained the record two years ago, aged 53, with the birth of her son, Dean.

Mrs Mason and husband Ian, also 53 at the time, had Dean after their 11-year-old daughter, Kylie, was killed in a car crash with her maternal grandmother in 2000.

Now the couple are about to do it again. Their baby daughter is due in a month's time.

Dean and the new baby were both conceived by in-vitro fertilisation, with a donor egg and Mr Mason's sperm.

The couple married 34 years ago.
