A fisherman last seen struggling in the water at Raglan has been named by police as Doyle Frickey.
The 67-year-old from Hamilton has been missing from Ruapuke Rocks, south of Raglan, since Monday morning.
He has not been found despite extensive searches in the area he was last seen and police said in a statement today that they believe he has drowned.
An aerial search by police and the Coastguard will take place over the weekend, with the aim of finding Frickey's body and returning him to his family, police said.
