A Hamilton man on a six-month European holiday with his family has died after being stung by a bee or wasp in the Czech Republic.
Steven James Alsemgeest was fixing a bike tyre at a motor camp when he was stung last week, his father, Mike Alsemgeest told the Waikato Times.
His family - wife Pippa and children Sam and Libby - called an ambulance when he started swelling up but it was too late.
"It was all over in 30 minutes," Mr Alsemgeest senior told the newspaper.
"It was an act of God."
His son had not been known to have a life-threatening allergy, he said.
The family was touring in a motorhome and had biked around a lot of European towns.
They are due home next week.
