Hamilton interested in taking over flower show

A Hamilton delegation headed by Mayor David Braithwaite was meeting Ellerslie Flower Show organisers today to discuss taking over the event.

The largest horticultural event in the southern hemisphere was put up for sale this week after major sponsor TVNZ ended its sponsorship.

City councillor and well-known horticulturist Bill Ward was to accompany the mayor who said they will find out what's "on offer".

"It's too early to talk about who might own it, where it might be, or how it might be paid for," Hamilton city council marketing manager Philip Burton said today.
