A Hamilton automotive engineering firm has been stripped of its power to carry out warrant of fitness (WoF) inspections after repeatedly failing to meet the required standards, NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) says.
Fauster & Simba Automotive Engineering Ltd had its WoF approval revoked last Friday, NZTA access and use manager David Pearks said.
A vehicle inspector with the firm lost approval to carry out inspections, and another was suspended for six months.
The business had been given ample time to make improvements after customer complaints from February 2007, Mr Pearks said.
Earlier this year, one of its vehicle inspectors was temporarily suspended.
Another complaint in February this year, relating to a vehicle deemed unroadworthy within one month of its WoF, showed the business had failed to raise its standards, Mr Pearks said.
"The vehicle in question was unroadworthy and should never have been issued a warrant," he said.
A subsequent NZTA review confirmed the business was performing below industry standards.
NZTA agents were expected to conduct thorough inspections and perform to set safety standards, Mr Pearks said.
"While we always endeavour to work alongside companies who are willing to improve their standards, our top priority is ensuring the safety of the travelling public."
