A deaf Hamilton man is accused of raping a woman he helped after she crashed her car in the city.
Christian Edward Grey, 36, is on trial in the Hamilton District Court where he denies sexual violation by rape, abduction for the purposes of sexual connection, and male assaults female - after the alleged attack between 9.30pm and 11pm on November 8 last year.
Grey, defended by counsel Jared Bell, allegedly helped the woman whose car had crashed at the intersection of Powells and Tramway Rds. Her partner had also been in the car when it crashed but he refused a ride home.
The Crown alleges Grey picked up the woman and then took her to the nearby Fairview property he was staying at and raped her.
In Day two of the trial, before a jury of six men and six women, Grey's flatmate said neither she nor her partner or children heard any unusual noises on the night the alleged rape took place.
