Hallwright goes to ERA to get job back

Guy Hallwright is taking his former employer Forsyth Barr to the Employment Relations Authority and wants to be reinstated to his job.

Hallwright lost his job as a senior analyst at the share broking firm three months ago after he was sentenced to 250 hours' community work for breaking the legs of a man he ran over.

Hallwright was found guilty by a jury in June of causing grievous bodily harm with reckless disregard over the incident in September 2010 in which he hit Sung Jin Kim with his Saab.

He drove off, but later called police about the crash.

As well as the community work and an 18-month ban from driving, Hallwright was also ordered to pay victim Sung Jin Kim $20,000 reparation.

Forsyth Barr chief executive Neil Paviour-Smith today confirmed he had been in an Employment Relations Authority hearing regarding Hallwright's job.

Paviour-Smith said Hallwright's position was terminated after the company had considered all the relevant facts following his conviction.

He said Hallwright was entitled to the hearing. "It's a process we are duty bound to follow.''

The hearing is due to continue tomorrow.
