Carterton's Belvedere Hall may not be in the best condition but there is still hope for the old community building, which is in danger of being demolished.
In Carterton's latest chief executive report, Colin Wright outlined the poor condition of the hall. It was a school in the 1880s.
Thereport said that a building committee had found it difficult to fund the running costs or sustain any regular use of the hall.
"It is suggested that the times may have come to demolish this building," the report read.
However, closed door discussions about the fate of Belvedere Hall at Carterton District Council's meeting this week suggest there may still be hope left for the building.
"I was made aware this morning of some new information to do with this," Mr Wright said.
"And I think it's best to discuss this item in public exclusion, because I don't think it's appropriate to talk about this opportunity in public at this point."
Mr Wright said the new information regarded the possibility of a community group being interested in the premises.
