Former Wairarapa College and Dalefield hockey player Tara Hall has been selected to attend a week-long training camp with the Black Sticks.
Hall, who is now playing in Wellington, got the nod after some outstanding showings at striker for the Capital under-21 and national league teams last year. She was, in fact, named in an extended New Zealand under-21 squad then and looks a strong chance to represent her country in that age group this season.
Black Sticks assistant coach Sean Dancer, who is also coach of the Capital under-21 side, said the New Zealand camp provided a great opportunity for promising players of Hall's ilk to experience the pressures of training in that environment.
Dancer also noted the increasingly large number of players making an impact on the national scene who had received their early hockey education in Wairarapa. He described Hall as an "exceptional player" who had the skills and work ethic to excel at the highest levels.
Hockey Wairarapa's regional development officer, Jesse Workman, also expressed delight at the recognition being given Hall. She returned to her Wairarapa base on a regular basis and had been a willing helper at some of the coaching clinics run by Workman for the local association.
