Mahunga held its annual Halberg Day competition and the scoring at the top was quite impressive.
The day's best score was the 49 points scored in the second group by David O'Reilly. There was a gap in this group back to Jim Sutherland and Layton Kawana on 42 points. The first group went to Brian Russo on 42 points, with Darryl Coley one point adrift and then Nooroa Rota on 40 points in third place.
The third group saw John Duffy and Bev Todd share the top billing with 44 points, while Heather Small and Martin Andrew finished on 39 points.
The Solway Pie Shop nearest to the pin was taken out by Darryl Coley, while Suele Soromon took out the Mitre 10 one on the third hole, Layton Kawana the McAuley's Transport one on the sixth hole, Troy Shaw the Solway Butchery one on the eighth, Martin Andrew the Alister Bruce Affordable Sheds one on the tenth hole and Daniel Towgood the Dinah and Deb Keats Professionals Real Estate one on the seventeenth hole. Perry White took out the All teed Up one on the fourth hole.
Holes in two were scored by Layton Kawana, Nooroa Rota, Alic Foreman and Ray Cocks.
Sunday saw the club holding the "short course" competition prior to the presentation of trophies won during the season. In the first group, Laurence Butler and Layton Kawana led the way with 63 points, with Allan Biel next best on 61 points, while Darryl Coley ended up with 57 points. In the second group, Martin Andrew also had 63 points for first place alone, while Kevin Hunter ended with 62 points for second place, followed by Ray Stringfellow on 61 and Ron Hutcheson on 60 points.
On Tuesday, the veterans played in an Ambrose Stableford competition and the three teams all finished with 45 points, with a count back being used to place them in this order: Jean Bayly, Janet Campbell, Peter Campbell and Fred Brittain taking the top spot, with John Mudgway, Yvonne Allsworth, Daphne Jordan and Blair Harvey in second place, and the Irene Phelps, Ray Loader and Meki Lauvi in third place. The nearest to the pins were limited to the sixth hole, with Daphne Jordan taking out the ladies one and Fred Brittain the men's one.
Last Thursday, the ladies held their Christmas tournament. Best score on the day was the 46 points scored by Edith Campbell in the second group, with Jean Bayly the runner-up in the group with 44 points, followed by Heather Small and Marg Chapple on 38, Mary Penrose on 37, while Annette Nickals, Trish Newcombe and Betty Loader were all on 36 points. In the first group, Miria Te Tau led the way with 41 points, from Nooroa Rota on 40, with Viv Reynolds and Diana Eagle on 38 and then Jan Williams and Pam Bisset on 37 points.
