Nine-time Coast to Coast winner Steve Gurney is to appear in Rangiora District Court tomorrow on a careless driving charge.
Police have brought the charge against the multi-sport legend after his Subaru Outback 4WD collided with a passenger train at a railway crossing in Rangiora in September.
Gurney declined to comment today, and would not say how he would plead.
Gurney miraculously walked away with only minor injuries. The train driver and passengers also escaped uninjured.
Following the crash, Gurney told The Star he was prepared to face the consequences.
