Gunshot victim taken to hospital

A man has been airlifted to hospital from an area about 20km west of Masterton after suffering a gunshot wound today.

The wound was believed to be self-inflicted, police central communications Inspector Marty Parker said.

Police were called at 12.14pm and a Westpac Rescue Helicopter was sent to the scene.

The man had since been taken to hospital. Police were speaking to people at the scene.
