Guns were among the items stolen in a pair of Invercargill burglaries last night.
Southern District Police are urging all residents to be vigilant and keep all buildings locked after two rural properties near Invercargill were broken into overnight - with "a number of firearms" and farm tools taken.
"We need to remind people to be diligent and ensure everything is locked and secure, including all sheds and outbuildings," Sergeant Phill Hamlin of the Southern District Command Centre said.
"Dark and windy nights can conceal an offender's movements, so it is beneficial for people to install security lighting and keep an eye out for any suspicious behaviour or people who look out of place."
Police would like to hear from anyone with information about people trying to sell farm equipment or firearms in the region, or anyone who saw or heard suspicious vehicles in and around Invercargill properties overnight on Friday.
