Two men have appeared in court on a raft of charges after one of them thumped a police officer at a drink-drive checkpoint in Lower Hutt on Wednesday night.
The driver was arrested on a fines warrant and his passenger was arrested for punching the officer several times.
Police found two guns and ammunition in the vehicle.
The two men appeared in Lower Hutt District Court on a variety of charges relating to firearms, offensive weapons, assault, and drugs.
Both men were remanded to reappear next Friday.
