Jan Molenaar had warned police negotiators he had "a few surprises set up" should they enter his home.
Molenaar shot himself at 1.28pm on a Friday but officers, who feared the house was booby-trapped, took 20 hours to go into the property to find his body.
The Defence Force's explosive ordnance disposal team, used a remote control vehicle (RCV) to break three windows at the front of the house.
The RCV camera was used to view the lounge and dining room but the gunman could not be seen. An unsuccessful attempt was made to prise open the garage roller doors.
The police special tactics group, travelling in an Army light armoured vehicle (LAV), fired tear gas into the house, and when this did not spark a response from Molenaar, they decided to retrieve Senior Constable Len Snee's body.
Once Mr Snee was back at the Territorial Force Army base, the RCV camera was used for the next 10 hours. Cars at and around the property were moved by the LAVs to give the authorities better visuals.
At 11am on Saturday, the special tactics group left the LAV and looked into Molenaar's bedroom. They found him dead.
A 7.62mm semiautomatic rifle lay across his body, and 10 firearms were in the bedroom, including a Llama-brand revolver with which he had shot himself.
Molenaar was wearing Kevlar-type body armour made from a motorcycle jacket. Also in his bedroom was a steel sheet used as body armour.
Seven improvised explosive devices were found and dismantled by the explosive ordnance disposal team before police investigators entered the house on the Sunday.
Molenaar's body was removed on the Monday afternoon.
Twenty-two military explosive "Thunderflash Friction" devices were found, and two military smoke grenades.
There was one rocket launcher tube at the address and 17 firearms - 10 rifles, six shotguns and a pistol.
Molenaar had created barricades, to obstruct forced entry, in various rooms using furniture.
He had strung barbed wire across a doorway in the garage and tried to run electric current into the metal handle of the door. He had laid nail traps in long grass outside the door.
One hundred and twenty-nine spent cartridge cases littered the house and 3174 bullets were located during the wider search of Molenaar's and neighbouring houses.
Police found 22 ounce bags of cannabis head, two half-ounce bags, 10 foil-wrapped "tinnies", 1896 cannabis seeds and 25 plants.
Also found was $15,000 in cash and A$5000 ($6497).
