A booklet which provides guidelines on how people can care for the Whau River and its tributaries will be launched at the Te Atatu Boating Club at 5 pm today.
The Whau River catchment includes both Auckland City and Waitakere City suburban land and extends to Mt Roskill, Blockhouse Bay, Avondale, the Rosebank Peninsula, Green Bay, New Lynn and parts of Titirangi and Te Atatu.
The booklet, produced by the Friends of the Whau group with backing from the Auckland and Waitakere councils, sets out ways to restore the ecological health of the polluted river. It will be distributed to schools, community groups and people interested in the river.
The Friends of the Whau was formed in 1999 and has organised cleanups which have pulled tonnes of rubbish from the river.
