Prison guard arrested for smuggling P and cannabis into jail
A Waikato prison guard has appeared in court for allegedly smuggling methamphetamine and cannabis into jail.
The 41-year-old Waikeria Prison officer was arrested yesterday after a planned operation between prison management and police, the Waikato Times reported.
He was granted interim name suppression when he appeared briefly in Hamilton District Court yesterday so he could tell his wife and children about the charges before his name is publicised.
The charges are possession of methamphetamine for supply, possession of cannabis for supply, possession of drug utensils and breach of the Corrections Act.
He was granted bail.
Prison management declined to comment while the case was before the court.
