Police are seeking witnesses to an group assault in central Wellington last night which left a teenager unconscious.
Three to four men had approached the 18-year-old man from behind with one striking a king-hit, as he walked down The Terrace between 6.30pm and 8pm, Detective Sergeant Penny Gifford of Wellington CIB said.
"A Polynesian man intervened and came to the victim's aid, causing the offenders to flee."
Police were keen to speak to this "good samaritan", Ms Gifford said.
"The victim lost consciousness and was taken to Wellington Hospital and has been unable to provide us with many vital details at this stage, so we're urging witnesses to come forward and tell us with what they saw."
