Police are investigating the group assault of a taxi driver on Auckland's North Shore at the weekend.
The 48-year-old was attacked on Glenfield Road near the Glenfield Mall shortly after midnight on Sunday morning when he became involved in an altercation with a group of youths.
He was then beaten about the head with some sort of weapon behind a commercial premises near the Glenfield Road intersection with Downing Street.
The driver is now in a stable condition in Hospital.
The offenders are described as follows:
* a male Caucasian, 18-20 years of age, approximately 5'7 in height, of slight build with shoulder length blond hair.
* two further male Caucasians, 18-20 years of age, of slight build with dark shoulder length hair
* two female Caucasians, 18-20 years of age with long dark hair and dark clothing.
Detective Constable Kyle Bilbrough of Takapuna CIB said: "Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen either the altercation or people matching the offender descriptions in the Glenfield area on Saturday night."
